I've been making up stories for as long as I can remember. In fact, one of my earliest memories is of telling my stuffed animals stories while I cut and pasted at my little wooden table. Once I learned to read (which wasn't until third grade), I split my time between making art and reading.
In college I had wanted to major in English, but there was no writing major, and majoring in my other love, art, didn't seem very practical. Ultimately I majored in Spanish, but ended up working in art. Eventually I added an art major from Calvin College to my B.A. in Spanish.

In 2004 Kregel published my picture book, The Wonderful World that God Made and in 2005, I completed an M.F.A. in Writing for Children from Vermont College.
Currently I spend my mornings writing and my afternoons in my studio. I have over a dozen polished picture book manuscripts, many of which were part of my master's thesis, and just completed my first novel, Turn. |
